Helllllo!!!!!!

Happy new month!! How are you? How was January? How are your new year’s resolutions going? Heys you, I’m talking to you. How are the resolutions that your swore to stick by going? In the mud or all is going as planned?

I saw a report on CNN that said nearly 80% of people abandon their resolutions by February, so are you part of the 20% or the 80%. I know you said you want to get closer to God this year. How far, are you still in the heavenly race?

That exercise you said you’ll start, how far? Have you started eating healthy like you wrote in your notepad? According to Forbes, “The most popular New Year’s resolutions are about self improvement (living healthier 23% of people, getting happy 21%, losing weight 20%, exercising 7%, stopping smoking 5%, reducing drinking 2%). In addition, people resolve to meet career or job goals (16%) and improve their relationships (11%). This is some people’s full list here yet they have refused to exercise or eat healthy (I know you’re blaming the harmattan).

In any case, I’m not here to guilt trip you only (mostly sha), I’m also here to share tips on how we (cos it’s like most of my goals are sliding gradually into the mud) can stay on track. Let’s do this!

First things first, Set Realistic Goals. Realistic goals are easier to break into daily/weekly goals. So for example, if I want to lose weight, my goal will be Lose 100kg by December 2022. What I will then do is break them into sub goals which will be to lose 100kg by December, I have to lose 25kg per quarter or a little over 8kg every month.

Step 2 is to set Milestone Goals. So I know how many KG I need to lose every month. Now I have to set milestone goals that’ll help me reach those goals. Still on the weight loss example, my milestone goals will then be week 1 (or month 1 depending on how you break it down), register at a gym, week 2 cut out processed drinks, week 3 start making healthy meals and drinks.….. (you get my drift).

Step 3, get an accountability partner. Please don’t get someone that will hide in the wardrobe with you taking chocolate and fanta when your gym instructor is looking for you, get someone that will drag you to the gym or drag the gym to you. Ask for help when you need it.

Step 4 is one of my faves, Documenting/Journaling. Keeping track of your progress is a way to spur yourself on. It also enables you work through what you need to work through, have a reference point and of cos, Befores and Afters.

Finally, my number 5 tip. Celebrate Your Small Wins. I beg you in the name of everything you hold dear, celebrate every milestone goal achieved. Reward yourself. When you keep track of and celebrate your small wins, on days when you’re feeling down and blue, you can go back and see how far you’ve come. Please celebrate. It doesn’t have to be big or anything just celebrate.
